Vacation View
Located in the mountains of Northern Virginia, on a made-up site, this Vacation home for a Consolate General is designed to connect the family and visitors with themselves and with the surrounding site and outdoor spaces.
The Process
Knowing I wanted to have spaces that flowed together into a common space for the family and guest and also making sure the guest feel free to move around the house. I started off by having these 2 ideas separate but after a lot of iterations, I decided to combined these 2 ideas.

With the 2 starting ideas in mind, the floorplan allows the visitors and family to view most of the interior and exterior of the house from anywhere to make the people feel welcome. The main floor is situated around the outdoor gathering area as well as the floorplan works with the contours of the site allowing for a small separation of the different spaces. A single-sloped roof was designed to direct people’s attention towards the main outdoor gathering area.
